Orphan Care
Vision: To lift orphan children out of state-run orphanages, and place them into solid Evangelical Christian families.
Considerations:
Being raised in government orphanages leaves children ill-equipped to handle the challenges they will face when they are released into society, at age 18. The statistics on orphanage "graduates" in Ukraine are quite bleak:
* 70% that he/she will end up in crime
* 50% that she will become a prostitute
* 33% that he/she will be homeless or unemployed
* 30% that he/she will commit suicide within two years
* 80% that his/her marriage will end in divorce
Why does this happen? Because these orphanages provide no practical training in even the basic skills they will need to survive on their own. They don't know how to cook, they don't know how to clean, how to wash their clothes, how to handle money; typically, they have no employable skills whatsoever, and a poor education. Nonetheless, they are discharged into society, wanted by no one other than those seeking to exploit their innocence.
